Woodblock printing in Japan (, moku-hanga) is a technique best known for its use in the ukiyo-e artistic genre of single sheets, but it was also used for printing books in the same period. What’s important is how art makes you feel. Many classes have materials fees in addition to the tuition. Yet, words and historical context can give the viewer a richer understanding. The following text presents a selection of artists and illustrations typical but not complete for these art movements. ![]() Wood, water, paper, pigment, paste, and simple carving and rubbing implements are all that is needed to make a print. Japanese woodblock printmaking, moku (wood) hanga (print), is distinguished from other printmaking techniques by the simplicity of material involved in its creation.
